Nate who?

Nate Robinson. I'm in my second season as a guard for the New York Knicks.

I was a first-round draft pick out of the University of Washington, where I helped take the Huskies to the Sweet 16.

It’s been a long road from high school. No one wanted to give me a chance in hoops at first – don’t know if they thought I was too small or what – but they underestimated me. I even went to Washington on a football scholarship before convincing Coach Romar I could make an impact on the hardwood. Now I'm gonna be the next big thing in the NBA -- even though I'm 5-foot-9.

Me and GP

I got a chance to go up against Gary Payton in this Nov. 28 game. (Getty Images)

On Monday, Nov. 28, we got to go to Miami to play against the Miami Heat. Like the game against the 76ers, this was also a thrill for me because I got to play against Gary Payton.

I’ve known GP for a long time. My Dad knows his whole family. In fact, I used to play for his team.

When he played for the Sonics, he used to sponsor our AAU team, the Gary Payton All-Stars. I was a sophomore at Rainier Beach High School in Seattle at the time, 16 years old. He brought us to his house and everything. And we got to see his nice house in Vegas and he got us all some shoes and clothes and stuff. And now playing against him in the NBA was just crazy.

He talked to me a little during the game. He’s a cool dude. I told him I liked his shoes he had on. He brought back the old GPs. He didn’t talk any trash to me, not really. He just said “Welcome to the NBA.”

I also got my first NBA dunk in that game. It was cool I got it, but we didn’t win the game, so I didn’t care that much. If we would have won, it would’ve been sweeter.

It was a joy to watch you with the Huskies and we wish you the best in NYC. Good luck from all of us here in Seattle.

I think this blog is the coolest thing ever this is better than reality T.V. This blog will help young cats with a taste of the real NBA life the good and bad! Keep up the good work!

Hi Nate,

Leave it to a Husky from Seattle to have the class and the intellect to share their NBA experience with the rest of us. You are a great example of how hard work pays off. Go Dawgs. I guess I'll have to learn to cheer for the Knicks.

Nate,
I always admired how you played. The fact that you're 5'9 is an inspiration to us that are under 6'0. BTW...I'm thrilled that you're a Seahawk fan. Go hawks!!!

It was so much fun watching you play football and basketball at the UW, best of luck in the NBA. Btw, I'm still looking for an official Nate Robinson Knicks jersey, hopefully they're out there.

It's real nice to see some good basketball here in the New york Gritty again, Nate welcome to the NBA and to NY, Your style and heart is just what this team needs to succeed.

Nate,
Hey, I just wanted you to know that I am a teacher in the Seattle School District(worked at Aki Kurose and Meany- even taught your sister in summer school at Garfield HS)and wanted to thank you for being such an inspiration to so many of my young African-American boys-they all stick your face on their various projects..

great to see that you have so many fans Nate. I just happened to see your blog site. Its been a long time that I watched Basket ball.I really have not seen you playing but I suppose you are a marvelous player as you have a huge fan following. Keep Slamming!!!

Sup Nate,
I'm small like you and I love the KNICKS....now that you are there! I also love the Huskies and basektball! You're an inspiration to me.
Thanks,
Richie

I watched you dunk on my best freind back in the state play offs in 2002. Everytime I hear about you and what you've done I remember that moment (and the fact that my freinds mom asked for your autgraph, on the pic of you dunking no less) and the way you helped turn around the UW's program, I feel a bit of pride knowing that I saw you when you were still young.

GO GO GO NATE! IM LOOKING FORWARD FOR YOU BECOMING A NBA STAR!

Hi Nate,
I just wanted to say that I'm proud to see another former Seattle School athlete make it to the pros. (I hope Brandon gets there too.) As an Seattle Athletic Director (yep, I know Jurdy) who got to see you play as a High School student and run against Shelton Sampson in the State Track meet, I never doubted you'd make it there. It is my hope that other local student athletes will learn from you that if you dream big, those dreams can come true with hard work, confidence and strong conviction. I truly wish you the best and that your career will be long. Tell Jamal Hi, from the Franklin AD that okayed his transfer to RB. Take care, stay strong, and keep your head on straight!

Lake Washington HS AD (formerly Franklin AD)

Mega Nate,

At your size, you have made a mockery of every person who told you that you couldn't. Couldn't cover a 6'4" wideout, couldn't size up a taller guard, not big enough to play at the highest level on the planet.

Pretty Simple:

Thanks.

Hey Nate.
Just saying hello from Croatia. Leting you know you have fans way over here. Great to see you with the Knicks and win that slam dunk contest for us!

Nate,

Can't wait to see you back in Seattle on the 6th!

Nate,
Being BOTH a Knicks fan and a UW Husky, I was knocked off my feet when I heard that you were playing for the Knicks. One of my greatest memories here at UW was giving you a high five after you beat then-undefeated Stanford. I was born and raised in New York, and I visit there often. The last time I was there, I told everone that you would be the next big thing in Madison Square Garden (not joking, I literally held up a picture of you I found in the newspaper). Good luck to you, my man.

I'm a knick fan that lives in Arcata,Ca. near Eureka. I've been following your career since that dunk against N.C. State. I'm also good friends w/ one of your relatives that live in Eureka, Ca.. We watch every game you play, keep bringing it man, attack the rim, they can't stop you. P.S. hit those free throws

Nate,

It was a pleasure watchin you, Will and Tre over here at UW in the Dawgpack these past few years. Husky hoops is on the map because of what you guys started here. I'll never forget your alley oop against 'zona 2 years ago, and also your shot against osu that changed Husky hoops forever. Best of luck in NY bud.

Nate,
I am impressed that you are taking the time to chronicle your NBA Rookie season experiences via this Blog. I've nevery really seen your game, however with the things I'm reading there is a certainty that I will see your game soon. Although, you are beginning to get some good minutes, the best minutes that you should take a great deal from are "time to rest, time with your coach (he's one of the all time best), and time with Zeke (Isaiah Thomas) one of the all time great point guards to ever lace up a pair of sneaks. You should take what you can from their advice, and guidance and keep learning.

Also, don't get too high or too low through theses experiences. Just keep having fun! I'll watch you from time to time.

Thanks

Hey Man I'm from UDUBB the huskies..!! We miss your acrobatic and quick J's!! We really need someone like you right now in our school team. Hope you have a nice rookie season~~~ GO HUSKIES!! GO SONICS!!!

Nate: To be perfectly honest with you, this is the first time I have heard of you. However, I hope and pray it won't be the last. It is really cool that you are providing this insider's view of the life and times of an NBA player. Stay humble, stay connected to the fans, never forget where you came from and most of all - be good - on and off the court. P.S. I am an outright football fan, but I will be watching for you.

wuss up Nate,

Glad to see you in the NBA with the Knicks. I used to be a hard core Knicks fan, but just like any other bad relationship its a two way street. I was tried of being disapointed. But with You, Curry, and Stef, maybe this love hate relationship will get better(before we call in Dr. Phil). I pray Gods blessings for you and Knicks, NO INJURY'S and the playoffs.

It's always fun watching you. There are a lot of Knicks fans here in Europe, and we are all excited when we see you playing Nate. Hope to see ya once in Europe during summer. Greets andy

Welcome to the league homie, I've been very impressed by your play so far. You can definitly hold your own up against the big dawgs, keep your head up, I see you and the other rookies turning our team around. GO KNICKS

Nate,
Good luck this year. Its fun to watch you play and I appreciate your hustle. Your my favorite. I watched you in college and Im glad you play for us. I think you and Frye are great additions to the team. Kudos to Mr. Thomas for a great draft. Best of luck.
