Nate who?

Nate Robinson. I'm in my second season as a guard for the New York Knicks.

I was a first-round draft pick out of the University of Washington, where I helped take the Huskies to the Sweet 16.

It’s been a long road from high school. No one wanted to give me a chance in hoops at first – don’t know if they thought I was too small or what – but they underestimated me. I even went to Washington on a football scholarship before convincing Coach Romar I could make an impact on the hardwood. Now I'm gonna be the next big thing in the NBA -- even though I'm 5-foot-9.

I'm sorry

Posted: Tuesday, December 19 at 01:46 am ET by Nate Robinson

I want to apologize to the fans, my family, the Knicks organization and the NBA for my part in last Saturday’s altercation during our game against the Denver Nuggets.

The first thing I thought about afterward was the fans, especially the kids. I just felt terrible that they had to see something like that.

During my suspension, I will practice every day with the team in an effort to improve my game. Unfortunately I won't be allowed to go to the arena. And with a 10-game suspension, that takes me right up to the game in my hometown of Seattle on Jan. 5. So it is very disappointing that I won't be able to play in my hometown.

Nonetheless, I accept full responsibility for my actions and for letting the situation get out of hand. I was trying to help my teammate and in doing so I reacted inappropriately.

I am embarrassed by and truly sorry for my behavior, and I promise I will learn from my mistake.

blame coach karl. for his pettiness to try to show up your coach made temper flares. granted being part of a man is proving you are better than petty people like coach karl and not reacting. just get our knicks some wins fella and don't fall into stupid traps of lesser people.

I thougth it was a very bad example to all the fans especially the kids. Carmelo made it worse by punching the other player (and ran!). NBA players should change the way they represent themselves, like rap videos & others, we should make the change because crimes in the nation is up...and these type of events are contributing to the already messed up society.

Apology accepted, but if you had a child and are not married, that is more embarrasing. Why can't you do the right thing and marry the mother? That is nothing to be proud of.

Nate,

While your actions are considered to be out of line, folks have to understand before you are a basketball player, role model or whatever.. you are a man first. It was natural reaction. I'm willing to bet if your fans were surveyed, they would say they would have probably responded in the same manner. As for the kids... you just keep blockin Yao's shot and all will be forgiven. Holla-

Nate,

Thanks for your apology. It's the right thing to do and I hope others involved will do the same. Best wishes.

Nate.
A big fan of yours when you were here in Seattle. I think you bring character to the game and while Saturdays fight was unfortunate, mistakes do happen. I know that money and pressure can change a man, but remember all the good things you've learned from Family Friends and coaches. Its still a game

I hope things can change in the NBA and all pro sports. Its getting to the point that I not only cant afford to take my 5 and 2 year old to pro sports events, but due to things like saturday, I dont even want to.

Best wishes to you and yours for the holiday

This seems to be sincere, and if it is, it is truly the only appropriate response any of the players could have. Maybe if every player accepted their responsiblity totally and didn't blame anyone else, the kids they influence will learn that there are direct and considerable consequences to your actions - regardless if your motives are pure. If only one person gets that message, Nate Robinson will have earned the title of positive role model, and will have helped the NBA take a step back in the correct direction. Only time will tell, but he has earned my respect if he lives up to his word.

I'll believe it when I see it.........Until then, you'll all continue to be in my "no-watch" dog-house, just like the last two years.........spoiled, over-paid, whiny brats.

How silly is this? Embarrassed? Sorry for the lo$t $$$s.? To play in Seattle?? Robinson had the opportunity to demonstrate that the NBA is not a haven for spoiled, violent, and lawless "thugs". This is one NBA Fan (Sonics season ticket holder for 15 years) who will not returning to see another NBA game for a very, very long time. I will be disgarding my remaining season tickets in the garbage and can't imagine renewing my season tickets for the Sonics for 2008, 2009,etc or watching another NBA game on TV!
Thank God there is college and H.S. basketball.

You came out of this thing looking OK; I was surprised that your suspension was so long. You got in a fight in a very heated situation, and it seems to most people like you were encouraged to do so by your coach. It's Carmelo who ruined his image, probably for a long time. Throwing a sucker punch is bad enough; running away after you do it makes you the bad guy, forever.

YOUR TEAMMATE AND YOUR COACH SHOULD BE THE ONES APOLOGIZING. SO SHOULD CARMELO FOR SUCKER PUNCHING YOUR TEAMATE AND RUNNING AWAY. EVEN THOUGH I DO NOT CONDONE VIOLENCE SOMETIMES INDIVIDUALS GET CAUGHT UP IN THE MOMENT, AND YOU WERE MAN ENOUGH TO APOLOGIZE.

Hi Nate,
You did go overboard.
Next time just get in between the guys and push both away. You don't have to prove your toughness.
As far as basketball, you have a world of talent, but at 5-9, you have to learn to be a point guard. Get the ball, use a pick or just beat a guy off the dribble and then see the floor for your teammates or take it to the rack if it's there. Learn the teardrop like Tony Parker did. The talent is there, just keep learning the fine points.
Jim (big Knicks fan on Long Island)

You did what you thought was right (at the time)Nate, and given the circumstances, reacted before thinking. Who hasn't done that at least once? Men accept responsibility, children blame. Anyway, good luck and I hope that your team can get back to winning soon.

you were man enough to apologize as a fan i greatly respect that !

Nate, keep your head up. The game is about mistakes, life is about mistakes... what you do after the mistake is what matters most.

Enough said; apology made, fine paid.

It's okay, Nate. Practice hard and get back out there. But next time this kind of thing happens, just remember you're better off doing what Van Gundy did against Alonzo - grab a leg and play peacemaker.

Get over the fact that you're short..we all know you can hoop so you don't need to prove your manhood every time you feel challenged.

Another rhetorical, meaningless apology. Take some Anger Management classes. Or speak at some junior high or high schools about anger. Then I may actually start to think that you are truly sorry. Until then, its just meaningless babble.

I don't believe that players have a responsibility to our children. I raise my son, I don't expect athletes or actors to do it for me. However, I do believe that playing such a great game and doing it well, should not make a man exempt from the laws of our country. If a man that is 5'8", working in a mill somewhere, gets caught on tape beating up co-workers, he is fired, arrested, etc. What makes athletes exempt? We place too much emphasis on fame in our country. We make the mistake of believing that if you are on TV you are somehow a better human or more deserving. I'm sure this won't get posted because it isn't the popular opinion, and we must protect our athletes from anything they don't like, but someone needs to wake these spoiled kids up and remind them that they get paid to play a game. And they should all get on their knees and thank god every single day that he allowed them the talents that they have and quit acting like spoiled children.

You are more responsible than anyone else for starting the "brawl". You need to learn to be a man and keep control of your emotions. Boys have to get in people's faces - men don't.

You are one of the few fortunate to be talented and play in the NBA. What you did was disgraceful. There is no excuse. You should of been suspended for more games. Moreover, tel isiah that he is truly a "jerk." Amen to Karl. It is unfortunate that you are playing for an idiot who thinks he knows the game. Isiah has physical talent, but nothing from the neck up.

Why did it take you so long to apologize? Carmelo said it the very next day. You have no class and yes, you should be ashamed of yourself. You need to try and stop acting like your "coach" who was a thug and a punk when he played.

You're a big man, Nate. We'll miss you, and we look forward to having you back, soon.

You can call the season off as far as I am concerned, I will never watch the NBA again, I can watch a bunch of thugs on "cops'.
