Serving up a special dunk

How can I top this? (REUTERS/Lucy Nicholson)
The difficult thing going into the Slam Dunk Contest is how to top last year’s dunk where I leaped over Spud Webb. That will be tough!
(Click here to see some of my dunk highlights)
But I think I can top it, as I’ve got something special planned. I’m not going to give anything away, but I will say that as far as I know, one of my dunks has never been done in a dunk contest before. So hopefully that will be exciting. I won’t be using any props or anything on this one, it will just be me. And I’m hoping it will be one of the best dunks ever.
They will have new rules this year. We have a two-minute time limit to complete each dunk, and when the time expires, we get two more chances to make it. I’ve heard that some people are calling it the “Nate Robinson rule” because I took like 15 tries to make one of my dunks last year.
I caught some grief for that, even though other players have gone through similar problems in past contests. Believe me, my teammates let me hear about that! They laughed and had a good time, but I just told them that I still won, and that’s all that matters!
Well even before the new rules, I was planning to do much better this time around. Some might think I will pull back a little on the degree of difficulty, but I can’t play it like that. I’m not going to change my game plan at all.
I’ve got some tricky stuff I’m going to try. And for those who might be worried that I’ll miss my special dunk I have planned, I gotta tell you I’ve made it all 10 times I’ve tried it so far. I’ve done it at practice, and I did it once during warmups, although I don’t think anyone noticed.
I’m also going to have David Lee help me out with a dunk, and that one will be cool, too.
I’ll be up against three big guys in the contest: Orlando’s Dwight Howard (6-11), Chicago’s Tyrus Thomas (6-9) and Boston’s Gerald Green (6-8). Should be a great contest.

Time to focus on playoffs
Will it take Nate twenty tries to be able to dunk this year like it did last year? It was a joke that he won.

Yo Nate,
don't you think Andre Igidala's dunk was one of the best dunks you've ever seen. You should try that one. The one where someone tosses a pass of behind the backboard. Or you should bring Shawn Bradley out and dunk over him.
Peace,
Mike

i hope your able to top your dunk from last year nate!
Good Luck!

Maybe this year you won't take 12 tries per dunk.

I'm watching the dunk contest now, and your first one rocked! I'm excited to see the next ones!! What did Tyrus Thomas say to you after his second? (It wasn't even close to yours last year over Spud, by the way.)
Lauren, New York, NY (Sent Feb 17, 2007 11:12:07 PM)
Good luck, buddy.
here's some inspiration for you:

What's up Nate? I thought you did an awesome job at the Slam Dunk Contest tonight. You defended yourself very well and even though you didn't come out on top, you did come in 2nd adn that's very impressive.
Thanks for being a great role model.
Melanie Watson, Atlanta, GA. (Sent Feb 17, 2007 11:47:32 PM)
Nate, i love you. I love watching you play ball, you are freaking crazy, i love it. <3
Alexandra Armstrong, S. Setauket, Ny. (Sent Feb 18, 2007 12:37:53 AM)
wow! your right that was a special dunk: up against the backboard 360 grab the rim and in. wow. you definately shouldve gotten more for that. i not gonna get into that but green jumping over a little box is definately not 50 material. judges were def biased cause howard was real good too n they never gave him a high score.
Kay, CT (Sent Feb 18, 2007 2:41:18 PM)
i think that you should have let him jump over the cutout of you cause he barely jumped over you. his foot was actually at your pecks or ribcage. if you cardboard was there instead i woulds fell n maybe he wouldnt have gotten that many point for it. anyways i love that your such a good sport. it shoulda been between you and howard. green was that serious, his only good dunk was the one with pierce.
Junie, MA (Sent Feb 18, 2007 2:45:42 PM)
Great performance last night! A true showman!
Adam, Binghamton, NY (Sent Feb 18, 2007 3:01:55 PM)
It is without a doubt that the Knicks WILL NOT be in the playoffs. Winners win, Loser keep losing. Until there is a change of ownership and coach, the Knicks are headed for nowheresville.

I was able to watch the slam dunk contest last night, you did your best Nate, You're still the champ for me.. Gerald Green won because of his height, that dunk was normal for his height, but if you did it, it would've been different! for sure you're gonna get a 10 from MJ!
Jorge Lusung, Cavite, Philippines (Sent Feb 19, 2007 11:54:04 AM)
dam you should of never let him jump over you
you should of topped him and jumped over a car or something like hook mitchell
emdubz,winnipeg,man,canada (Sent Feb 20, 2007 12:50:02 AM)
Hey Nate...
I think you got robbed.
You shoulda just let Gerald jump over the cut-out version of you, he woulda probably hurt himself.
I still think you rule and in my opinion you still won.
GO KNICKS!
