Star struck by dunk judges?
Posted: Wednesday, February 14 at 02:29 am ET by Nate Robinson
The Slam Dunk Contest will be great fun in Las Vegas this year, as I’ll be trying to defend my title against three big guys: Orlando’s Dwight Howard (6-11), Chicago’s Tyrus Thomas (6-9) and Boston’s Gerald Green (6-8).
They should be tough, but maybe the most distracting aspect of the competition will be the judges … have you seen the list? It’s an incredible group of the best dunkers ever: Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkins, Dr. J, Kobe Bryant and Vince Carter.
All of them have won the contest in the past, and all have come up with some of the most amazing dunks ever.
It’s going to be kinda cool to compete in front of them. There will be no room for error, no room at all with those guys! I expect them to be tough judges. They understand how hard it is to do this in front of all those people.
But this is going to be fun. I have never met MJ or Dr. J before and hopefully I won’t be too star-struck. I hope I do get a chance to chat with those guys. If I do, I might ask them about what they did to become so successful as players. But I also don’t want to bother them because I know they get that a lot. I’ll just stand back and chill, and we’ll see what happens.
Other than the dunk contest, it should be a busy weekend. There is a lot of stuff to do aside from the big events … interviews and behind the scenes stuff. But it’s all fun and games, really. My Mom and my Dad will be going with me again, so I’ll just chill with them for the most part.

Serving up a special dunk
I am glad you represent for the little man. I stand an amazing 5'5", I am pretty solid on the weights, just can't get taller. I myself play ball, but looking at what guys like you and Earl (Boykins) do on a regular basis makes me study what you do. But I appreciate you repping for us all who have "Hoop Dreams". I hope you win this year again and show and prove that it was not a fluke, but showing "Height Does Not Matter". Be Easy and have a GREAT time meeting those Super Heroes......I mean Stars.

Good luck in the Slam Dunk Contest this year Nate. We're gonna need to seem new stuff, make sure that it's, like Magic would say, "showtime". Most importantly, we're gonna need you to complete your dunks on the first or second attempt. Good luck, pimpin'.

Hi Nate! I'm Matteo from Italy...I'm your very appassioNATE fan!!! You are a very good basketball player and I think that you have to play more than just 10 minutes in a game!!! I'm tall like you and when you go for a dunk I dream that I play that dunk with you!!!! I'm looking for one of your jersey. In Italy is very difficult to find it, but I hope to find it soon. With your jersey I'll play better with my friends!!! Good Luck for the Slam Dunk Contest in Vegas...Bye...Matteo

Must be pretty nerve-racking competing in front of the greatest basketball player of all time, MJ that is. Though you do have the advantage seeing how you've been there and are defending the crown. Good luck, I'll be watching.

It has to be intimidating and exciting at the same time to be in the slam dunk contest in which all the judges have not only won but created the most memorable dunks ever in the history of the contest. The judges alone make the contest reach another level. No one can come in their with weak dunks. Whoever wins this contest will win the respect of the greatest dunkers in basketball. That being said I beleive that you are going to be placed on this list of the greatest dunkers even if you don't win, but I truly believe that you will win again.
Good Luck

You know Iguodala won last year. That doesn't mean you're any less of a dunker. Just make sure you win decisively this year.

Kobe is an active player and should not be allowed to judge. He should get off his high horse and compete!

Nate, you are an inspiration to players like myself under 6 feet (I'm 5 ft 5 and am about 3 inches away from dunking). Anyhow, where can one order your jersey from? I cant find it anywhere on the net. Go Knicks!
MJ, Adelaide, Australia (Sent Feb 15, 2007 10:15:53 PM)
Hey Nate, hopefully it won't take you 20 attempts to complete one dunk this time. And you should try jumping over someone a little taller, like Yao Ming. You might have to wait for him to fall asleep to complete that dunk.
